Carnegie Hall Presents

Hayato Sumino, Piano

Tuesday, November 18, 2025 8 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage

Hayato Sumino by Ryuya Amao
Witness the Carnegie Hall debut of international piano phenomenon Hayato Sumino, who in 2025 became OPUS KLASSIK’s first-ever double winner. With a style both virtuosic and tender, Sumino’s interpretations of classical repertoire alone would make him one of today’s most exciting players. However, it’s Sumino’s unique, multifaceted artistry that has earned such a fervent following. Known for incorporating jazz-informed improvisational wit, a prodigious gift for composition and arrangement, a passion for film and video-game scores, and more, “musical courage and the quest to push boundaries [are] Sumino’s calling card[s]” (Classic FM). Tonight, he performs wide-ranging selections by Chopin, J. S. Bach, Gulda, and Kapustin; original works, including lush Chopin variations; and a climactic arrangement of Ravel’s Boléro.
